Ear aesthetics is an aesthetic operation applied in order to eliminate the deformations that are present in the ear at birth or that come to the median after an accident. The deformity of the ear causes psychological problems in the person. Surgical procedures are needed for congenital or acquired ear problems.

Ear surgery or otoplasty in turkey is getting famous day by day because of its low price in Turkey as compared to tier 1 countries also our Prof. Dr. Suleyman tas who is a European board certified and very experienced in Plastic surgery has achieved many milestones in this field.

Types of Ear Aesthetics

In our country, ear aesthetics is generally applied for prominent ear problem. Apart from the prominent ear, ear aesthetics is applied in ear rupture, earlobe and ear anomalies.

Prominent Ear Aesthetics

One out of every 3 children is faced with prominent ear problems. Sometimes congenital prominent ear problem, sometimes lately occurred prominent ear problem. Prominent ear is the most common congenital ear deformity with a 5% incidence. If no improvement occurs, prominent ear deformation can be eliminated with a simple surgical procedure. The average height of a normal ear that does not require prominent ear aesthetics is 60-65 mm and its width is 25-35 mm.

As in other aesthetic surgeries, the choice of the doctor, the technique used by the surgeon, and the pre-and post-aesthetic ear aesthetics are among the factors affecting the ear aesthetics.

Ear Lobe Aesthetics

The earlobe is separated from the head area, causing a bad appearance just like the prominent ear problem. There are many surgical techniques for this condition. In general, the common feature of all of them is the process of bringing the ear closer to the head with an incision or stitch made behind the ear. Apart from this, earring tear occurs in the earlobe due to the use of earrings in women. Many techniques have been described in it. In general, the torn area is re-punched 6 weeks after it is re-sewed and the treatment is performed. Another problem in earlobe aesthetics is that the earlobes are larger than they should be. In this case, the earlobes can be reduced to a suitable extent with surgical treatment.

Ear Anomaly

Ear anomaly is a congenital ear deformity. Since ear deformity is a genetic factor, the mother should be careful during pregnancy. Definitely should not consume alcohol, cigarettes and should not be in an environment with radiation. Ear anomalies can be seen in different ways in everyone. Ear anomalies such as the absence of the auricle, larger than normal ear lobe, Anatio, Macrotia, Shrunken ear, Stahl’s ear, Cryptotia, and Question Mark Ear, should be treated with surgical interventions.

Anatio: Congenital absence of auricle.

Macrotia: The auricle is larger than normal.

Puckered ear: An abnormally small protruding ear.

Stahl’s ear: Scaf, at the top of the ear

Cryptotia: It is the situation where the skin is embedded in the part of the outer fold of the ear, which we call the helix, just above the ear, which we call the temporal region.

Question Mark Ear: It is similar to the question mark of the ear due to the lack of the area above the earlobe.

Ear Clipping

Ear ruptures after trauma are urgent and require meticulous surgery. Depending on the condition and size of the broken part, it can be sutured microsurgically. If the injury is too bad to be done, then the cartilage of the ruptured piece is removed by surgery and buried in the place called the postauricular region behind the ear, or it is placed exactly where the ear is and turned here together with the membrane vessel in the upper part of the ear (temporal region) so that this cartilage can live. A skin patch from the leg is placed on the membrane to make it look like an ear again. If the ear was severed long ago and the patient came to us because he was uncomfortable with this image, then the ear reconstruction, which we call ear reconstruction, is performed. This surgery can be performed in a single session or in 2-3 sessions. When it is done in a single session, after shaping the cartilage from the 12th rib, the vascular membrane we brought from the temporal region and a skin patch are brought over it so that this cartilage can live there again. When it is done in multiple sessions, the cartilage taken from the rib is buried under the skin behind the ear and it is allowed to live here. After at least 1-2 months, this cartilage is removed together with the skin on it, and a membrane is brought behind it and a skin patch is applied to it. These are very difficult and troublesome surgeries, and the patient should know that he should never expect an ear as before or as if he had never had an operation.

How is Ear Aesthetics Applied?

The person who will have ear aesthetics should be at the hospital on the planned date and time. In ear aesthetics, the places where the ear needs to be intervened are determined and it is aimed to put stitches that will not disturb the ear fold. Cartilage areas are rasped. The tissues are removed from the necessary places and the ear is brought to the desired form. Stitches are made from the necessary places behind the ear. If your surgery will be performed with local anesthesia, you can have a light breakfast in the morning. If your surgery will be performed under general anesthesia, you should not eat or drink anything 8 hours before. After the operation, which will take approximately 1 hour, a bandage is worn to preserve the given shape and reduce swelling and edema. You may not feel pain thanks to the medications given when you go to your room. In surgeries performed with local anesthesia, you can start eating when you go to your room and go home after 3-4 hours of observation. After the operation is performed with general anesthesia, you should not eat or drink anything for 4 hours, you may need to stay in the hospital for 1 night at the discretion of your doctor.

Note: While ear aesthetics is performed under general anesthesia at young ages, it can be performed under local anesthesia in adults. If the patient has concerns, general anesthesia is also preferred in adults.
